CIVIL/STRUCTURAL ENGINEER

Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

The Civil/Structural Engineer is an essential member of our multi-disciplinary engineering teams. The ideal candidate for this role will possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in civil and structural design in either the energy, transmission pipeline, or petrochemical industries. As a member of the team, you will report to a Senior Civil Engineer and be involved in the overall design and execution of all aspects of civil and structural design. You will be familiar with regulatory processes for provincial and/or state regulatory agencies. You will also support the procurement phases of the teams’ civil structural items.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating with the project engineering team for the execution of the design of projects.

  • Performing design calculations of complex structural engineering including steel structure design, concrete structure design, steel buildings, piling and foundation design and related element design.

  • Structural analysis using in-house tools, excel, hand calculations and S-frame software.

  • Developing engineering design drawings, reports, construction documents, and client required forms.

  • Reviewing vendor equipment documentation within the discipline and from other disciplines for compliance with project requirements, and actively seeking discrepancy resolution.

  • Providing regular updates on work progress to support preparation of cost and schedule reports.

  • Preparing cost estimates for Civil/Structural bids and proposal work.

  • Reinforcing and overseeing the implementation of industry, client, and corporate quality and safety standards.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of engineering experience designing steel and concrete structures and foundations. Experience at an EPCM in the energy, transmission pipelines, or petrochemical industry is preferred.

  • Professional Engineer registered with either APEGA, TBPE, or NCEES;

  • Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering with an accredited Canadian or American university (or equivalent);

    Structural specialization or structural specific courses preferred.

  • Experience with S-frame or similar software (Autodesk robot, SAP 2000, etabs, Staad pro, etc.)

  • Comprehensive understanding of interdisciplinary engineering deliverables for project execution specific to energy, transmission pipelines and petrochemical industries.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills combined with a positive, team-oriented attitude.
