CONTROLS ENGINEER

The EIC - Controls Engineer is an essential member of our multi-disciplinary engineering teams. The ideal candidate for this role will possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in EPCM in the energy, transmission pipeline, and petrochemical industries. As a member of the team, you will report to a Senior EIC Controls Engineer and be involved in the overall design and execution of all aspects of instrumentation and control design. You will also review and coordinate procurement phases of the teams’ projects.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Instrumentation Specification (selection, technical data sheets, bid analysis and recommendations) and procurement for field instruments and control systems.

  • Supporting the project engineering team for the execution of the design of projects

  • Performing design and review of engineering and construction work packages including:

    • data sheets

    • installation details

    • instrument location drawings

    • loop diagrams

    • wiring diagrams

    • instrument lists

    • I/O lists and assignments

    • instrument UPS load requirements lists

    • location plans

    • area classification drawings

    • control system architecture diagrams

    • communication block diagrams

    • DC power distribution

    • load lists

    • IO schematics

    • logic diagrams

    • cause and effect diagrams

    • shutdown keys

    • instrument indexes

    • material requisitions

    • vendor packages.

  • Layout design and configuration of:

    • buildings

    • control rooms

    • control panels

    • marshalling cabinets

    • junction boxes

    • communication cabinets

  • Developing engineering design drawings, reports, construction documents, and client required forms.

  • Providing regular updates on work progress to support preparation of cost and schedule reports.

  • Preparing cost estimates for Instrumentation bids and proposal work.

  • Reinforcing and overseeing the implementation of corporate quality and safety standards

  • Participating in field trips, which are typically a few days and less frequently a few weeks, while assisting in gathering information from existing facilities.

Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer registered with APEGA, TBPE, or NCEES.

  • Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering with an accredited Canadian or American university (or equivalent).

  • Extensive knowledge of pneumatic and electrical instrumentation specification selection for various energy and petrochemical processes.

  • Strong knowledge of control applications including P&IDs development, control systems (PLC, DCS, SIS and RTU) architecture, and industrial control network knowledge. 

  • Design and specification experience with instrumentation, control systems, area classification drawings

  • Comprehensive understanding of interdisciplinary engineering deliverables for project execution specific to the energy, transmission pipeline, and petrochemical industries brown field and green field projects.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills combined with a positive, team-oriented attitude.

  • A minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in EPCM and the energy, transmission pipeline, and petrochemical industries is required.
